A nationally recognized Top 100 General Contractor is seeking an experienced Commissioning Project Manager to join its Mission Critical business unit. This role can be remote with travel to site when needed across the Midwest and will support the delivery of a state-of-the-art, hyperscale data center. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing commissioning activities on one of the most innovative and technically advanced data center projects in the country.
Position Overview:
The Commissioning Project Manager is responsible for leading the assigned scope of the commissioning process, ensuring that all systems and equipment are installed correctly and function according to design specifications. This position collaborates closely with internal project teams, trade partners, and external stakeholders, while providing technical guidance and supporting training efforts throughout the commissioning lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all phases of the commissioning process (Level 1–5), including planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution.
- Lead commissioning meetings and integrate commissioning timelines with overall project schedules.
- Review submittals, drawings, and design documents to ensure readiness for testing and commissioning.
- Develop and implement test scripts for functional and integrated systems testing; audit and verify execution.
- Perform and supervise testing activities on HVAC, electrical, and control systems, including EPMS and BMS equipment.
- Coordinate energization plans, load banking, and system start-up activities.
- Identify and resolve installation and operational issues, escalating where necessary to ensure resolution.
- Manage project closeout processes including the delivery of O&M manuals, training, and system turnover documentation.
- Mentor project team members and contribute to the development of technical skills within the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction project management or MEP commissioning.
- At least three (3) years of hands-on experience with HVAC, fire protection, controls, and/or electrical system testing.
- Proven experience in the commissioning of hyperscale data centers is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with construction law, lean construction principles, and commissioning best practices.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Technical Proficiency:
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, mechanical systems, and commissioning protocols.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, JDE, Bluebeam, and scheduling software is advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
